Frans Wiering

Frans Wiering received a Ph.D. in Musicology from the University of Amsterdam (Netherlands) for his thesis The Language of the Modes. Studies in the History of Polyphonic Modality (1995). He is currently an Associate Professor in the Music Information group at Utrecht University. His research is at the intersection of computer science and music, connecting computer science methodology to state-of-the-art domain knowledge of music.

He is the founder of the Thesaurus musicarum italicarum, a corpus of online Italian music treatises. He was a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University and a Visiting Fellow at Goldsmiths College, University of London. He was an organiser of the Dagstuhl Seminar Knowledge representation for intelligent music processing (2009) and was General Chair of Eleventh International Society for Music Information Retrieval Conference (ISMIR 2010). He is chair of the International Musicological Society’s Study Group on Digital Musicology.

Mirjam Visscher

Mirjam Visscher is a PhD candidate in the Music Information group at Utrecht University, where she studies 15th and 16th century music from a big data perspective. 30% of her contract is dedicated to teaching responsibilities. She co-teaches in the Sound and Music Technology course in the Master Game and Media Technology. She manages a team of 30 student tutors who support approximately 350 first-year students in the Information and Computing Science bachelor's program. In 2022, she founded the Educational Reading Club to collaboratively enhance educational knowledge and skills among colleagues.

With over 15 years of experience in the industry, Visscher has a diverse background that includes roles in data management, business economics, long-term forecasting, and simulations. Her professional journey also includes work as a the head teacher of the Big Data Analyst Master program, and teacher of data governance, risk, compliance, and ethics at The Hague University of Applied Sciences.
