Earth System Modelling

Earth System Models play a key role in much of the research taking place at IMAU, serving as a bridge between theoretical understanding of the climate system and observational records. Where Global Climate Models (GCM) focus on the representation of the physical processes in the atmosphere and ocean, Earth System Models (ESM) take a step further including not only the physical processes, but also other relevant processes such as chemical, glaciological and biological.
The Earth System Modelling group focussus on the use of complex models, more specifically the Community Earth System Model (CESM), for simulations in both individual and collaborative projects within IMAU.
